Recover passwords and encryption keys to over 300 data types, ranging from PDF documents to system login passwords. Use the processing power of up to 10.000 machines to get your password in a small amount of time. The software uses a broad variety of dictionaries as well as brute-force attacks to retrieve complex passkeys.

ElcomSoft Distributed Password Recovery is an advanced password recovery tool. It is one of the most advanced and up-to-date applications of its kind and it leverages the power of remote computing to the task of password cracking. This tool can use the processing power of several computers (up to 10.000) to help you crack password for a variety of different file types. There are two different apps that you have to download to set up a distributed password cracking system. There is the server and console app, and there is the agent app. You install the server on your main computer, and you can install the agent in up to 10.000 computers. Of course, you have to manage those; they are not provided by ElcomSoft.

ElcomSoft Distributed Password Recovery allows you to use up to 64 CPUs or CPU cores and up to 32 GPUs per processing node. And you can have thousands of nodes in your system. You can connect to agents via LAN or the Internet and manage them and install them remotely.

The application uses dictionary and brute-force attacks to crack passwords. The supported file type list is huge, and it ranges from PDF files to Windows login passwords. There is a complete list of what the app can and cannot crack on the website.

It should be noted that this application is for advanced users, the price alone should be an indication of that. It is a serious tool that is said to work excellently. The pricing scheme is as follows: for $599, you can connect up to 20 clients, $1199, and it goes up from that.

Version 2.9 of ElcomSoft Distributed Password Recovery looks nearly identical to that of the latest version reviewed on this site (2.7). Most updates were done to the engine itself and the support for hardware to speed up the process. With version 2.9, support for the newest GPUs from Nvidia and ATI has been added. Some bugs were fixed, but there isn't a mention of what they were.
